The launch of our Young Ambassadors Forum
Our new Bereaved Siblings Young Ambassador's Forum -
Our new Bereaved Siblings Young Ambassador's Forum -
In April, we launched our first ever Bereaved Sibling Young Ambassadors Forum - creating a new opportunity for bereaved siblings across the UK to connect with others, share their experiences, and help shape the future of sibling bereavement support.
The forum has been developed to ensure that bereaved siblings are not only supported, but listened to. Too often, siblings can feel overlooked in their grief. Through the Young Ambassadors Forum, we want to create a space where siblings feel seen, heard and supported, while helping us improve the support we offer to others in the future.
A space shaped by bereaved siblings
The Young Ambassadors Forum brings together bereaved siblings aged 6+ in age-appropriate groups, meeting both online and in person throughout the year.
The forum gives siblings the opportunity to:
Meet other bereaved siblings their own age
Share their thoughts, feelings and experiences following the death of their brother or sister
Help shape the future of sibling bereavement support across the UK
Take part in activities, discussions and workshops
Build confidence and use their voices to contribute to wider conversations around grief and bereavement
One of the most important parts of the forum is creating opportunities for siblings to realise they are not alone. Many bereaved siblings tell us that meeting others who understand their experiences can have a hugely positive impact on how they process and navigate their grief.
Age groups and opportunities
The forum has been designed to support siblings at different stages, from children, to teens and young adults.
Ages 6–12
Younger siblings will be able to take part in event days alongside parents and carers, online discussions, and activities that help them express emotions and connect with others in a supportive environment.
Ages 13–17
Teenage siblings will have opportunities to join workshops, discussions and event days, while helping shape future services and national conversations around sibling grief.
Ages 18+
Our young adult ambassadors will have opportunities to attend social meet-ups, volunteer at future Sibling Support events, and contribute to talks, presentations and wider awareness work around sibling bereavement.
Looking ahead
We are incredibly excited to begin building the Young Ambassadors Forum and to work alongside bereaved siblings in shaping what comes next for Sibling Support.
The application process is not about deciding whether somebody is “right” for the forum. Experiencing the death of a brother or sister means every sibling brings valuable experiences and perspectives. Instead, the process simply allows us to get to know applicants before welcoming them into the group.
We’ll shortly begin arranging informal online introductions with applicants, with the aim of launching our first online meetings throughout July.
