What does the Bereaved Siblings Professionals Network do?
We welcome hospices, hospitals, bereavement therapists and schools to join the professionals network. Any provider who either has an existing service that is dedicated to supporting bereaved siblings, or planning to set up a sibling specific support service.
We meet four times a year, three of those meetings are virtually and one of them is face to face in a central UK Location.
As a network, we are committed to ensuring that bereaved siblings are given the best quality support to help them acknowledge their grief, identify their emotions and explore ways to remain in control of their grief, reducing the impact it has to their mental health and day to day interference.
The in person meetings take place in a location that allows us to step back from the demands of our day to day work and use the change of scenery to review our own work and explore how we can move forward, together.
What’s involved in network meetings:
• Skills development
• Networking
• Discussion on new ideas to support siblings
• Hearing about best practice + good news stories
• Increasing accessibility for sibling bereavement services
• Hearing from guest speakers
It’s more than just a few meetings…
We give bereavement providers on the network, priority access to our events throughout the year. These include:
-
Our Sibling Days run 4-6 times a year at iconic locations across the country (Such as London Zoo or Harry Potter World. We run these days in partnership with a local bereavement provider. We welcome bereaved siblings and their families to attend the day where we allow them half the day to explore the attraction as a family, building new memories and reconnecting as a family unit. The other half of the day is spent joining in with a family bereavement workshop, that allows them to explore grief together as a family whilst meeting others who are on a similar journey.
Sibling Days are completely free of charge and include a lunch, refreshments and the option of requesting support to travel to us and home again. Priority is given to our Professionals Network to advertise these days to families that they support.
-
Our New Memories Programme runs throughout the year dependant on funding. We are able to organise a family trip, event or a new ‘item’, that allows the bereaved sibling and their family the chance to unite as a family unit, create new memories and very often, be given permission to remember that it’s ok to smile again, after the death of their sibling.
Because our ability to run this programme is dependant on the funding we receive, we give providers on our network priority access to this programme, for bereaved siblings and families that they work with.
-
Are you keen to use your experience to help transform future services? We are often approached by other providers to help guide and inform their launch or development of a sibling specific bereavement support service. We work with network providers to capture thoughts and feedback, to feed into the transformation journey of other organisations.
“It was the most amazingly supportive professional day. I am immensely grateful for providing this and for all you are doing for bereaved siblings. Thank you ever so much for making us feel so valued.”
