Sibling Support’s Salhouse Broad Memory Run
In April, we held our first ever Sibling Memory Run at Salhouse Broad in Norfolk, to mark National Siblings Day and remember brothers and sisters who have died.
The event brought together bereaved siblings, families and supporters from across the UK to walk, jog or run either a 5k or 10k route, while raising vital funds to support bereaved siblings across the UK.
Despite the wet and windy weather, it was incredibly special to see families coming together to remember siblings, connect with others who understand, and spend time in a space where grief can exist alongside moments of laughter, conversation and support.
A day centred around remembrance and connection
The Sibling Support Memory Run was created as a gentle and accessible way for families to mark National Siblings Day.
Rather than focusing on competition or performance, the event encouraged people to take part in their own way and at their own pace - whether walking hand in hand, jogging side by side, or running in memory of someone they love.
Alongside those attending in Norfolk, families across the UK also joined virtually from their own local areas, helping make the day a shared act of remembrance and connection.
Throughout the day, many bereaved siblings and parents spoke about the importance of being around others who understand their grief.
Creating opportunities for families to connect in this way continues to be one of the most important parts of the work we do at Sibling Support.
Supporting bereaved siblings across the UK
Thanks to the generosity and fundraising efforts of everybody involved, the Sibling Memory Run raised more than £2,500 to help us continue providing free resources, sibling days, memory-making opportunities and specialist support for bereaved siblings across the UK.
We are hugely grateful to everybody who took part, donated, fundraised, volunteered or helped support the event in any way.
Following the success of this year’s event, we already have the date for 2027’s Sibling Memory Run, so keep an eye out for more details and how you can get involved!
