There can sometimes be a lot of pressure to do well in exams. Add that to the emotions you experience when someone close to you has died and it can become very overwhelming very quickly.
We know all too well the increased workload, stress and worry can make emotions boil up to the surface. Essay deadlines and tests may even affect your sleeping and eating patterns, but we’ve got some tips that might help out.
Tell people how you feel: Speaking makes a world of difference. You don’t have to be alone, by letting those around you know how you’re feeling they can be there for you.
Give yourself a break: Exams are important, but they’re not everything. What is most important is looking after you. Don’t be too hard on yourself. You might find sitting down, relaxing and being with your own thoughts for a while will help.
Exercise: Go out for a walk, a run or cycle. Play football with your friends. Whatever you do, being active can get your endorphins flowing which can improve your mood.
Speak to your school, college or university: Speak to a lecturer or teacher you trust. Most organisations should have procedures in place to support you. Sometimes they will take into account a recent death when they mark your work as well.
